Leilani is a graphic designer and loves her single lifestyle. When she’s not partying with friends, she likes to travel and shop. She’s just bought a newish Honda Civic on hire purchase and likes to have the latest audio technology in the car.
Like most people of her age, she’s living for today; thinking about her financial future is a bit of a struggle. Her mum, however, insists that she is “not a child anymore”. So after some gentle persuasion, Leilani decided to take some responsibility for her own future.
She recently opted into the FirstChoice KiwiSaver scheme through her workplace. This means that a percentage of her salary goes into a retirement savings fund before she has the chance to spend it. She probably won’t even miss it! She has a serious retirement nest egg in the making, and she may also be able to put some of the savings toward a deposit for her first home in a few years’ time. This has got her mum off her back... for now!
